Disability Lawyers
Research shows that most people spend more time selecting a car and planning their vacation then they do their attorney. This point could not be highlighted more the need to employ a professional disability lawyer if you are taking a disability claim to court. Although any lawyer could help you, they would not have the same presence in the courtroom as someone who is highly trained in that particular field; their wealth of experience with Insurance Companies and the Social Security Administration will be beneficial, particularly in the appeals processes. Disability law is a highly specialized area which means that an attorney dealing with general problems may miss points that a disability lawyer will see immediately; their intimate knowledge could make or break the case.
If for some reason you are in the appeal process because benefits have been refused then a lawyer will be someone who will be able to guide you through without hesitation. If you want to find a reputable law firm, go online to a website that you have confidence in, to search for law firms in your area and then visit their websites; feedback from previous clients they have represented are often available for everyone to see. Try and see if they have any recorded cases that are similar to your own and see what the outcome was; another option is to ask someone you know if they have any recommendations. Consider your recruitment of a suitable disability lawyer the same as choosing your physician; you need to choose one that you feel you can trust.
An attorney must have sufficient experience in this field so don’t employ someone who has less than five years experience in disability law; at least three of those years should have been spent practicing in your state. Social Security Law, disability insurance and long term disability are all areas your disability lawyer will need to be conversant in; with the majority of his or her work in this field of law. A representative that doesn’t tell you what is going on or is not honest about your chances is not worth employing. At the start you may have to see a few attorneys if you want to have a realistic chance of winning your case because finding one you trust might not happen the first time.
It is not uncommon for a person to be a little afraid of carrying this out on their own so there is no reason why a good friend should not be present to provide support. Whilst most attorneys do not charge for an initial consultation but just like you, their time is important; you can guarantee they will be prepared for the meeting and so should you. It should go without saying that your disability lawyer is someone who has integrity and respect for you and your situation so there should be honesty to your relationship and the chances you have of winning your case; there is no substitute for honesty in these circumstances but you must reciprocate. Do not become dismayed if you do not find the right attorney immediately as the process can take some time.
